Headache Treatment in Riverdale, NJ

Many recurring headaches — especially tension-type and cervicogenic headaches — originate from the neck and upper back, not the head itself. At Starr Performance and Wellness, Dr. Connor assesses neck mobility, posture, and muscular tension to identify whether your headaches have a mechanical driver that can actually be treated, rather than just managed.

Types of Headaches We Address

  • Cervicogenic headaches (originating from the neck)

  • Tension-type headaches

  • Headaches linked to poor posture or prolonged screen time

  • Headaches associated with upper back and shoulder tightness

  • Stress- and training-related muscular tension headaches

Our Evidence-Based, Movement-First Approach

  1. Assessment of the cervical spine and upper back to determine whether neck mobility or muscular tension is contributing to your headaches

  2. Hands-on chiropractic care and manual therapy targeting the neck and upper back restrictions linked to headache patterns

  3. Targeted exercises for neck and upper back strength and mobility to reduce headache frequency long-term

  4. Practical changes to posture, workstation setup, or training load where relevant

Important Note

Not all headaches are mechanical in origin — some require medical evaluation outside the scope of chiropractic care. Dr. Connor will assess whether your headaches are an appropriate fit for this type of treatment, and refer out when needed.

FAQ

How do I know if my headache is coming from my neck?

Common signs include pain that starts at the base of the skull or one side of the neck, worsens with certain neck positions or after prolonged sitting, and is accompanied by neck stiffness. A full evaluation can confirm this.

Will chiropractic care help migraines?

Migraines have a different underlying mechanism than tension or cervicogenic headaches. Dr. Connor will assess your symptoms to determine if chiropractic care is appropriate or if referral to a specialist makes more sense.

How many sessions are typically needed?

This depends on how long the pattern has been present and its underlying cause — you'll get a specific plan after your evaluation rather than a generic timeline.
